Mikayla Mace Kelley earned her bachelor's degree in 2015 from the University of Arizona in neuroscience and cognitive science and minored in astronomy. While working on her master's degree in science journalism, Kelley worked as a graduate teaching assistant for the U of A's Department of Astronomy. After graduating in 2017, she began as a science, higher education, and health reporter for the Arizona Daily Star. In 2019, Kelley returned to the U of A as a science writer in University Marketing and Communications where she wrote press releases, created explanatory videos and organized media opportunities to share research with broad audiences. She co-wrote a book chapter with Carol Schwalbe on how the news media cover space science and exploration. Now, at the Planetary Science Institute, she serves as deputy public information officer.
