Professional History

Dr. Travis’ professional career began as an engineer with the Apollo “Man-to-the-Moon” project. When that exciting effort ended, he moved on to applied mathematics and fluid dynamic studies of earth systems, receiving his PhD in 1974 in Mathematics from Florida State University. He spent nearly 40 years as a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, working for the Computational Earth Science group. Inspired by the visually stunning results of space missions of the past decade, he has returned to planetary research and joined the permanent science staff of PSI in 2014.
