Project Description
Dr. Gaskell will support planning, analysis, and software development related to shape modeling of Apophis. To this end, Dr. Gaskell will apply his experience modeling Hyperion (a unique saturnian satellite), which has a chaotic rotation state and is directly relevant to shape modeling of Apophis, which will undergo a spin state change during the asteroid’s 2029 Earth encounter. He will attend regular teleconference meetings with the APL shape modeling team and attend the NPA Rotation Coordination Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) in person.
