Stop 14 at Haughton

Panorama of Haughton Formation lakebed sediments

We are now standing on top of a series of lakebed sediments, which belong to the Haughton formation. These sediments were laid down in a lake that filled the crater several thousands to millions of years after the impact event. Even today, this region of the crater is typically wetter than the surrounding terrain. In the movie, you will see a panorama of these lakebed sediments. At the next stop, you will see these sediments up close.
