As we discussed at the last stop, suevites are impact breccias that contain fragments and patches of impact glass. At this small roadside outcrop just north of Zipplingen, we can see black patches of impact glass and abundant white fragments of shocked gneiss and granite. Suevites contain rocks excavated from as deep as 2 kilometers by the impact event! To learn more about suevites, click here.
