PSI Research Scientist Ryan Watkins celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing at the Museum of Flight’s Lunar Block Party in Seattle, Washington. This event was held alongside the Smithsonian’s traveling Destination: Moon exhibit, which highlights the beginning of the Apollo program and features the Apollo 11 Command Module, Columbia. As part of the Lunar Block Party event, Ryan and other Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) scientists gave mini-talks on science being done by LRO and ran a booth featuring lunar images, data, and activities. Ryan’s talk focused on selecting future landing sites for a return to the Moon. PSI provided a 3D model of the Apollo 11 landing site and several interesting images and activities for the event, which attracted about 10,000 people over three days.
