A “Rocks from space – Touch a Meteorite” event headed by PSI Senior Scientist Elisabeth Adams was part of the Somerville Family STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Math) night April 5 that attracted 776 attendees. Prior to the event, Adams made hands-on presentations to first, third and sixth graders at the Albert F. Argenziano School in Somerville, MA using a PSI Meteorite Kit.
A parent of one attendee said, “He said he had the best time of his life today because you came and he got to hold Mars and Moon rocks and other meteorites.”
The 6th grade students were just finishing a space science unit and about to start an Earth science unit, so this was the perfect activity. The students were very engaged and asked lots of great questions, Adams said.
The STEAM Festival was held for the first time this year thanks to a grant from the National PTA STEM + Families Science Festival, Sponsored by Bayer Fund, and was organized by the Somerville Citywide Council of PTAs. Adams served on the organizing committee for the festival in addition to running the meteorite table.
