A number of PSI scientists participated in the three-day Asteroid Science in the Age of Hayabusa2 and OSIRIS-Rex Workshop held at the Tucson Marriott University Park hotel. PSI was a Gold Sponsor of the event.
The workshop provided an opportunity to summarize our understanding of near-Earth asteroids, following the Hayabusa2 and OSIRIS-REx encounters with Ryugu and Bennu. The organizers invited contributions spanning all relevant research on small bodies in the Solar System, including comets, asteroids, meteors, meteorites, and returned samples. Presentations covered observations, laboratory work, theoretical investigations, and future mission concepts.
PSI scientists gave presentations and offered posters on a variety of topics that included Thermally Driven Exfoliation and Particle Ejection on Bennu, Photometric Properties of Ryugu’s Surface from Both the Hayabusa2 NIRS3 and ONC-T Instruments, C-Complex Asteroids: UV-Visible Characteristics and Implications for Space Weathering Effects and Color and Spectral Slope Maps of Asteroid Ryugu from Hayabusa2 Optical Camera Images.
