Project Description

Automate Parker Solar Probe (PSP) magnetometer data download from UCB FIELDS SOC, organize data, and acquire auxiliary data Accept responsibility for getting the data down to GSFC (gauss) as soon as it is available at Berkeley. This includes both MAG .dat and .cdf files and performing the IDL-based decommutation into IDL .sav files. In addition to data decommutation, automated checking of data validity is performed in parallel (e.g., digital housekeeping, voltages, currents, temperatures, checksums, etc.). Data retrieval will also include some spacecraft-generated telemetry available via the UCB FIELDS SOC. Examples include reaction wheel speeds, solar array voltages, currents, and positions, FIELDS bus voltages and currents, etc. It is presently an evolving list. Work with us to understand how to access the data that are in Common Date Format (CDF) files.

Monitor and analyze MAG housekeeping data for any faults and produce regular housekeeping plots for review by the MAG team

Update some processing and plotting IDL software, for example, to include more data, and to provide plots that are better than some Tplot generated plots that we have now

Work with others for some software development, such as software to improve the MAG zero offset determination, using solar array currents, etc. Other software and data projects may develop over time, because PSP is a challenging mission.
