Professional History

Dr. Norbert Sch├Ârghofer studied physics at the University of Vienna, Austria (Mag. rer. nat.) and at the University of Chicago (M.S., Ph.D.), and held postdoctoral positions at MIT (in geophysics) and Caltech (in planetary science), before moving to the University of Hawaii (astronomy). He joined PSI in 2016 and lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"I study physical processes on the surfaces of the Earth, the Moon, Mars, and asteroids, mostly processes that involve water ice. Most of my time is spent on model computations, but I also carry out theoretical studies, data analysis, and field work. Among my research interests are the ice age theory of Mars, water ice in the polar regions of the Moon, and the cryosphere of Hawaii."
