Areas of Expertise
Targets: Mercury, Moon, Small satellites
Disciplines/Techniques: Remote sensing, Tectonics, Geology

Research Interests

Dr. Sarah Andre's research interests include planetary tectonics, remote sensing, and mapping of planetary surfaces. Current research projects include the characterization and structure of craters and basins on Mercury using MESSENGER image and topographic data and the study of impact basins on the Moon using lunar topography. Dr. Andre is also involved in the development of image processing and stereogrammetric techniques to produce digital elevation models. Other research interests include the physical properties of meteorites and the meteorite-asteroid connection.

Professional History

Dr. Andre received her PhD in Geological Sciences from Northwestern University in 2004, studying densities and porosities of ordinary chondrite meteorites and studying Mercurian topography using digital elevation models. Before joining PSI in 2011, she was a postdoctoral research scientst at the Smithsonian's Center for Earth and Planetary Studies at the National Air & Space Museum.
