Project Description

Dr. Jamie Molaro will work with Returned Sample Physical and Thermal Properties lead, Andrew Ryan, to help define the team’s measurement goals and methodologies with respect to the planned measurements (to be performed by others) of the thermal and mechanical properties of the returned sample. Molaro will work with Ryan and other team members to analyze the measurement results and assess the implications for sample geologic context and for our understanding of thermal fracturing and other weathering processes on Bennu’s surface. Dr. Matt Siegler will work with Returned Sample Physical and Thermal Properties lead, Andrew Ryan, on several measurements of thermophysical properties (thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, density) of the bulk returned sample. Dr. Siegler will aid in the design of these measurements and he or his students may take part in some laboratory work. These measurements are currently planned to take place at University of Arizona and we ask for travel to two meetings for Dr. Siegler to advise in this effort, but other work will be remote or covered
by other travel funds.
