1. What hope is there anyhow - isn't it all doomed? 2. Politicians
should not decide what should be done and the priorities -
scientists should. The planetary science community did a full study
of what should be done (decadal survey) and then in a wink,
politicians changed the focus based on their limited knowledge of
science. 3. Nasa needs to hire administrator's that that know how
to say 'NO' to Planetary Science cutbacks and have a bent to
inspire politicians to have a desire for planetary exploration. 4.
Bush is trying to kill NASA. Make everyone work on one program and
then kill it. Killing one large program is a lot easier than
killing thousands of small diverse programs. Time for astrophiles
to circle the wagons. 5. This is good as far as it goes, but all
scientists must become involved in efforts to change the leadership
of the country. This administration is hostile to science, hostile
to truth, hostile to the survival of the environment and the future
of the planet. DPS and the AAS should increase dues to fund
additional lobbyists and lobbying efforts.
