Two-Dimensional Detector Observations

Performing ultra-precise, time-series digital photometry and object identification for imaged objects which are both bright (high S/N) and faint (low S/N) is another effort being pursued by Dr. Howell. Steve is currently involved with a number of stellar and extragalactic time-series projects, particularly the Faint Sky Variability Survey and the search for extra-solar planets.

Development of a Realistic Model for CCD point sources has been accomplished. This model allows the user to specify and control all aspects of point source observations in a software manner. Extention of this work to ensemble time-series differential photometry useful for large area surveys, such as those mentioned above, has allowed photometric precisions of less than 1% to be reached routinely.
