Ed Stiles earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, with minors in mathematics and engineering mechanics, from Iowa State University.

He worked as a reporter and editor on Tucson's afternoon newspaper for 16 years and eventually became the paper's science/environment writer.

He left the newspaper to join The University of Arizona College of Engineering, where he edited the college alumni magazine, wrote press releases, worked as the college photographer and wrote and edited copy for brochures and other print publications, as well as for the college web site.

He retired from UA in May 2008 and joined the Planetary Science Institute in July 2008 as its public information officer. Ed writes press releases about PSI research and serves as PSI's liaison with the media.

In addition to his full-time jobs, Ed has sold freelance stories over the years to several newspapers and magazines. He also co-authored the book Bike Tours in Southern Arizona and the booklet The Grand Canyon to Mexico Bicycle Route.
