The Dawning of a New Era in Education and Public Outreach:
New Roles and New Responsibilities for Scientists

Over the last decade, NASA and other federal agencies and professional societies have dramatically increased their commitment, both through strong position statements and through fiscal allocations, to increase the understanding and appreciation of science. This includes a renewed call for scientists to step forward and make Education and Public Outreach (EPO) an important part of their efforts. This talk will describe some new roles, responsibilities, and opportunities for scientists to have significant positive impacts on education and public outreach.
