Gullies and Groundwater on Mars

Friday, June 29, 2012

Young gullies and gully deposits on walls of martian craters raise the possibility that liquid water flowed on the surface of Mars recently. Results from a numerical model of groundwater emergence from shallow aquifers under variable environmental conditions relevant to present-day Mars will be presented and compared to observations.  The aim of these investigations is to help identify the conditions under which groundwater may be a viable explanation for recent gully activity.
