2010 Annual Research Report
During 2010 Jeff Mortenthaler engaged in three major research projects:
Measurement of the ionization lifetime of atomic carbon (results published 1/1/11). This was accomplished
using high-quality wide-field UV observations of comet Machholz (see figure). Work associated with this
project also enabled the Feldman et al. publication listed below.
Support of software created to reduce thousands of high-resolution spectra of Io at [OI] 630 nm. Software is
used by students at NASA/GSFC
Creation of the GRaND Peak Analaysis Widget (GPAW) for use by Gamma Ray and Neutron Detector
(GRaND) PI Tom Prettyman for calibration and analysis activities.
