MAPS, IMAGERY, AND OTHER DATA SETS PSI's Planetary Geosciences Laboratory includes resources for map production and image analysis. The laboratory contains an extensive collection of remote sensing data, including NASA CD-ROMs of Clementine, Galileo, Magellan, Mars Pathfinder, Mars Global Surveyor, Viking, Voyager, Geologic Remote Sensing Field Experiment, and Volcanology (Kilauea, Mauna Loa, and Kamchatka) data; selected prints of Lunar Orbiter, Mariner 9 (Mars) and 10 (Mercury), Viking Orbiter, and Voyager images; aerial photographs and LANDSAT data of volcanic landforms in the U.S. (CA, ID, HI, and OR) and Central Andes (Bolivia), as well as U.S. Geological Survey photomosaics and maps (topographic, shaded relief, and geologic) of Venus, Mars, the Moon, and the Galilean satellies. COMPUTER HARDWARE Computer hardware available for planetary geoscience research includes a Mac Pro quad-core OSX workstation, two Intel Quad Core Xeon Windows XP Pro workstations, and a remote Linux Red Hat Enterprise 4 workstation. Data storage and backup devices inlcude a 6 TB network-attached storage server, internal hard drives in various lab machines totaling ~ 1.4 TB and a 1 TB portable USB2 external drive. COMPUTER PERIPHERALS Peripherals include a Wacom Cintiq 21UX 21" touch-screen monitor, a Polaroid SprintScan 45 slide scanner, an Epson GT-15000 17" flatbed scanner, a Kodak 1400 dye-sublimation digital photo printer, and an HP DesignJet 5500PS wide-format printer. PSI has also acquired the components for production of stereo-pair Digital Terrain Models (DTMs); these consist of an Intel Quad Core Xeon processor workstation running Windows XP Pro and BAE Socet Set 5.5.0 with a Planar 22" 3D monitor and Stealth 3D mouse. COMPUTER SOFTWARE Software packages available for image processing and analysis, terrain and statistical analyses, and geologic map production include ArcGIS ArcInfo 9.3.1 and 10, ENVI 4.8, IDL 8.0, ISIS 3.2.0, VICAR 33.0, MaPublisher 7.2, Surfer 8.0, SigmPlot 9.01, Origin 7.5, Corel Graphics Suite 12, Adobe Design Standard and Premium, and Adobe Creative Suite 3. ArcGIS, ENVI, IDL, and MaPublisher are available to all on and off-site staff as network licenses. |
