My creative work in the last few years has been divided among three areas: scientific research at PSI, my paintings, and my writing. I am currently on the imaging team of NASA's Mars Global Surveyor mission. My paintings include astronomical scenes (used for magazines, book covers, etc.) and my writing includes popular science books and two recent novels. You can explore all these efforts in more detail by clicking on the listings below.

PAINTING OF THE MONTH

"The Launch of Mars Observer"

This is an eyewitness view painted at Kennedy Space Center during the launch of the Mars Observer spacecraft to Mars, on September 25, 1992. Spectators include scientists involved with instruments on the spacecraft, and their families, invited and bussed to an observation site by NASA. Mars Observer later failed during a maneuver, after sending back one full-disk image of Mars. Acrylic on acid free board.
