Impact simulation of an asteroid hitting land surface

Simulation Tektites
Diameter Impact speed Impact angle
1.5 km 20 km/s 30°
Final crater produced: Ries, Germany
Simulation: Dr. Natalia Artemieva, Russian  Academy of Science, Russia, using the code SOVA.

NOTES:
Colors represent different materials
Color intensity represents material density
Colored dots represent:
Yellow - Potential tektite material (originating close to the surface and completely melted).
Green - Solid target material
Cyan - Material from the projectile that is completely melted (if it mixes with melted target it forms material with extraterrestrial fingerprint, not tektites).
