The Planetary Science Institute is a non-profit science research institute (501-C-3) focusing on the exploration of the solar system. Founded in 1972, PSI has offices in Tucson, AZ (headquarters) along with numerous off-site scientists located in 16 states, the UK, Switzerland, Russia, France, and Australia. PSI staff are involved in numerous NASA missions, the study of Mars, asteroids, comets, interplanetary dust, impact physics, the origin of the solar system, planet formation about other stars, dynamics, the rise of life, and other subjects. PSI scientists conduct field work throughout the world and are also actively involved in science education and public outreach through school programs, children's books, popular science books and art.

Built in 1930, the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum in Chicago, IL was the first planetarium constructed in the western hemisphere. With approximately 400,000 visitors per year, Adler Planetarium is a lively center of astronomical learning along the city's lakefront with a variety of programs, exhibits, courses, lectures, and group events year-round.
