Sierra Nevadas and California

July, 2003 I was going to a conference in Pasadena which happened to coincide with the last week of Yen's maternity leave. Naturally, Yen and bub wanted to come along and we made the week before the conference a holiday. Possibly the last holiday for some time. These days we seem to stop a lot more often when going on roadtrips. Sabrina lake is used as a water supply. We hikedfrom South Lake in the Bishop Valley area up to Long Lake. This was the last campsite available at Whitney Portal. The day before the conference there was a ocean festival atSan Clemente. The Salton Sea formed at the beginning of last century when anaqueduct to LA sprung a leak and flooded this valley that is belowsea level.
