Lee's Ferry Region
January, 2002 Over the long weekend in January (MLK) we made a trip with Michael and Michael to northern Arizona. The original objective was to descend Tanner Creek but this is on Navajo Land. Being on Navajo Land is not a problem, but it can be tricky finding a ranger to give you a permit. Instead we went down Cathedral and Soap Creek that also join the Colorado but from the west side. On the last day we hiked up the Spencer Trail from the site of the historic Lees Ferry. Northern Arizona is a fantastic area.
SoapCreek is one of several tributaries that allow access to theColorado River in Marble Canyon.
Inthe heart of the more interesting sections of Soap Creek.
In order to go up or down Soap Creek, there is this drop tonegotiate.
If you have any plant from Arizona Michael could tell you what itis...
Historically, Lees Ferry was the onlycrossing of the Colorado River for hundreds of miles in eitherdirection.
Asyou climb up Spencer trail you get a great view of the Lees Ferryregion.
