Winter Ascent of Humphrey's Peak
January, 2002 There were a few objectives in this trip: 1. just to have fun, 2. an excuse to get out crampons and ice tools that haven't been used to years, and 3. to claim the highest point of Arizona for Australia Day. From the summit it is possible to see the Kaibab Plateau and the Grand Canyon in the north and the Mogollon Rim and begining of the basin and range country to the south. In the summer the summit gets blasted with lightning leaving dentritic fulgurites along the outside of the rocks.
Here's the summit of Humphrey's on Australia day.
