Dr. Grier is a joint Research Associate with the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL) and the Planetary Science Institute (PSI), both in Tucson, Arizona.

At LPL, Dr. Grier investigates the ages of impact craters on the terrestrial planets and asteroids, as well as studies the general surface processes on these bodies. Dr. Grier is using remote sensing data from the Clementine spacecraft to determine the relative ages of recent lunar craters. This information in turn will provide a better understanding of impact cratering on the Earth. Dr. Grier has also used standard age-dating techniques in the laboratory (40Ar/39Ar step heating) to study a terrestrial impact crater (the Gardnos structure, Norway), and the thermal impact history of several meteorites (Cat Mountain, Orvinio, Walters). Dr. Grier works closely with Dr. Alfred McEwen of the Planetary Image Research Laboratory (PIRL) as well as other PIRL staff. Dr. Grier presents the findings from her research at many meetings, conferences and workshops nationally and internationally, as well as serves as session chair for scientific conferences and referees manuscripts for peer review journals.

In addition to research, Dr. Grier has been and continues to be very active in diverse education, outreach, and service positions. She has volunteered as a science fair judge for K-12 science fairs. These have ranged from local contests at area middle and primary schools to international competition. Dr. Grier is a mentor for students in the National Space Grant Undergraduate Internship Program. She organized a large, six-day geologic research trip to Yellowstone National Park, was a member of the original organizing committee for the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory annual conference (LPLC), and has served in diverse graduate student volunteer positions.
