False Color Ida
Regions marked broadly "A" and "D" are plotted below.

The picture below is a portion of Ida, and in the area marked (20N, 20E)
by A, B. and C there exists a fresh-looking impact crater. The areas appearing
blue (A) in this false color image correspond to a spectral signiture that most
resembles L5 and L6 ordinary chondrites (see figure below). It is possible
that space weathering is operating on Ida 's surface, causing the
reddish-appearing areas (B)
to have an enhanced reflectance, until, over time, the older background
terrain (C) is completely absent of any absoprtion feature at 1 micron.

The following plot shows the reflectance data for the D, E, F regions marked
above. This region is just to the right of the A, B, C, region, and contains
a bright blue crater and bluer-than average background terrain.
